When I was sixteen, I was blessed with the opportunity to watch my mom birth my sister. That night was an amazing experience that impressed upon my heart forever. I was so moved by the magnificence of childbirth. Later in my life, I birthed my first child, an angelic little girl. I again found myself absolutely amazed by the beauty of a new little person entering into our world. That was the beginning of my journey to becoming a doula. The passion, awe, and respect that I feel for the birth process are what have guided me on this incredible path. I am a DONA-trained birth doula. I attended my training in 2003 with a nationally certified birth doula educator. Prior to beginning my journey as a doula, I was a home visitor for a newborn home visiting program. I worked extensively with many young moms during pregnancy. I also assisted the on-site childbirth educator in teaching childbirth classes. In all of my experiences, I have gained the most wisdom from parenting my two children. Throughout my first five years as a parent, I did not work outside of the home. I was blessed with the opportunity to be with my children, teaching and learning many great lessons. I am able to carry those lessons with me today as I serve other families. In 2000, I graduated from college, receiving a BA in Education Studies. I am currently enjoying my doula practice. I am also very active in the local Green River Doula Network. When I am not involved in the many wonderful tasks of parenting and am not working with another mom, I enjoy reading, photography, oil painting, jewelry making, and the beauty of Mother Nature. |
